My "Thank You, Readers!" Giveaway

I am so incredibly grateful for my In the Shadow of Blackbirds readers! This is not a novel that's being promoted with giant print ads and Entertainment Weekly features. It's a word-of-mouth type of book, and you readers and reviewers are doing an amazing job at creating buzz.

To show my appreciation, I've prepared an international In the Shadow of Blackbirds giveaway that's geared toward people who have already read the book. The giveaway will close July 2, 2013three months after the novel's release dateso if you're just now picking up the book, you still have a chance to participate.

Here's what I'm giving away...

First-Place Prize Pack:
Signed 12 x 18" poster.
Custom-made In the Shadow of Blackbirds bracelet.
Clock gear necklace.
Plus three signed bookmarks (in the brand-new design) and one signed bookplate.

Three other winners will receive:

Signed bookmarks (brand-new design) and a signed bookplate.

Below you'll find a Rafflecopter. Once you sign in, you'll be asked to answer a fairly easy In the Shadow of Blackbirds trivia question, which will unlock seven other questions. You don't have to answer them all, but each correct answer you submit will earn you an extra entry in the raffle. The giveaway is international. Good luck!

Mary Shelley Black is the most enigmatic, and has a great name :) B.t.w., I put the wrong tweet url but have done it (sorry!:). As this comment box doesn't allow BLOCKQUOTES, you can find it under my name on Twitter. Thank you!!

I just saw your tweet, Della. Thanks for letting me know!

Tough questions! It's a good challenge. I like the ones you chose :)

If I had to chose one character to meet, it would have to be either Mary Shelley so I could ask what was going through her mind the entire novel or Julius to find out what possessed him to do what he did!

I think I'd like to meet Mary Shelly's Aunt Eva. She has a pretty fascinating story too!

If I could meet a character it would probably be Mary Shelly. I would want to ask her how it felt to die. Or Aunt Eva to ask her about her husband.

Nailed it!!! LOL and Stephen of course!!!! ;)

Hugs,
Jaime

Thanks for all the first-day entries! It's nice to see some Aunt Eva love on the list. I know some readers have been ticked off by her fussiness and gullibility, but I personally can't imagine the book working without her balancing out Mary Shelley's thirst for logic.

Good luck everyone!

Besides the obvious answer of Mary Shelley, I'd like to meet the ghost Stephen so I could ask him what it's like being a ghost =)

I would love to meet Mary Shelley or her Aunt Eva. They're both amazing and strong characters and I think probably a lot of fun to know.

Cat - this is such a fun contest! Thanks for coming up with this great idea. I remain stumped on a few of the questions, but I will NOT give up. :)

Thanks so much to the second-day entrants for joining us over here! You guys are doing well with the answers! If you can't figure out an answer the first time around, then feel free to come back before the giveaway ends on July 2.

I would of course like to meet Mary Shelly. She is a wonderfully developed character who I became rather fond of. One of my favorite of all time leading females. I would love to ask her all kinds of questions. I'd love to meet Stephen and know more about him too. Mr. Darning and Julius...I'd like to listen in on their admissions about why they did what they did. So many great characters... maybe Mary Shelly's dad too...he'd be interesting to hear more from. Thanks for this really cool giveaway, Cat!! So awesome. I truly loved your book. It is a favorite for sure!!! Beat historical fiction I have EVER read. One of the greatest stories I've ever read!! I'm a huge fan! You are a very gifted author and I can't wait to read more for you :)

i'm shocked at how few of the trivia questions i remembered the answers to. now i think i should reread it. definitely.

If I were to meet any character, I'd want to meet Mary Shelley, because we could sit around and talk about being struck by lightning. :-)

I'm torn between Stephen or Mary Shelley. Because I'd really like to hug Stephen (that poor baby), but MS has a fascinating mind and I'd like to talk to her :)

Cat Winters said...

Jessica: Thank you so much for the kind note! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the book.

Slee: Mary Shelley would LOVE to talk to someone else who's been struck by lightning.

Adriana: Thank you for that wonderful review! Stephen could definitely use your hug!

Of course I would love to meet Mary Shelley because I feel like there is so much I could learn from her. I would love to meet Stephen, too. He just seemed like he was such a wonderful guy before everything happened. I would also be so interested in hearing about the 1910s from their perspectives because it's such a fascinating time and I am definitely a history nerd :)

Cat Winters said...

Thank you for stopping by, Jessica! I bet Mary Shelley would love to chat with you about life in the 1910s...especially the good parts.

Just finished the book last night and it was fantastic! Many of the scenes sent chills down my spine and the part when Mary Shelley finds out the truth, it was so horrifying and sad.

I'd like to meet Stephen and chat with him about photography. It's so fascinating and different from modern cameras. I'd also like to meet Carlos and Jones.

Cat Winters said...

Thanks so much for your note, Lynn! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the novel.

I'm also happy to hear you mention Carlos and Jones. Those two didn't appear in the book until a later draft, but they became some of my favorite characters.

I would like to meet Stephen if I could meet any of the characters. I would like to meet Mary Shelley too. Thank you for the giveaway! I adored In the Shadow of Blackbirds.

Cat Winters said...

Thank you, Kristen! :)

I'd definitely love to meet Mary Shelley the most, but if I could pick someone else too, I would have to go with either Jones or Carlos. I really liked the glimpse we got into their characters and would love to find out more about them. :)

Cat Winters said...

Thanks for some more Carlos and Jones love, Sam!

(Psst...if I were to ever dip my toes back into the IN THE SHADOW OF BLACKBIRDS world—and I'm not saying I will—I would definitely involve these two characters.)

Unknown said...

I would LOVE to meet Mary Shelley! She is my hero! Also, the most honest and strongest character I have ever read. You both rock.

Cat Winters said...

Thank you, Wilhelmina! Mary Shelley is near and dear to my heart, too. I thoroughly enjoyed writing from her viewpoint.

Sabrina P said...

I would really love to meet Mary Shelly Black or Stephen Embers!!

Unknown said...

I don't even care if it's obvious, I would want to meet Mary Shelley Black. She is so awesomely badass and feminist for an Edwardian chic. It's just cool to be able to talk to anyone who is that excellent.

Cat Winters said...

Sabrina: Thanks for entering!

Meghan: I love to hear Mary Shelley Black called "badass." :)

This is absolutely the most amazing book I've ever read. I was so attached to the characters and I fell in love with your imagery.

I would love to meet Mary Shelley and Stephen. They are both such impeccable people. They're so realistic and strong.

Thank you for writing such a great book!
