Updates on My Upcoming Books

I have four books releasing between August 2015 and Summer 2016, and I'm hoping they don't gobble each other up. There should be a little something for everyone in these upcoming offerings, and I will say they've all been keeping me extremely busy. Here's the latest news for all four of my 2015 and 2016 publications.

THE STEEP AND THORNY WAY

YA Fiction
Coming March 2016
Amulet Books / Abrams
ISBN 9781419719158

Last week I turned in copyedits for my newest YA novel, which means the next time I see the book it will be in its beautiful, typeset form. I grew so incredibly attached to my characters in The Steep and Thorny Way that I'm feeling some withdrawal from working on the novel. I really can't wait to share more about it.

The cover is currently in the works, and I've heard some details about it. I can't share anything just yet, but I will say that Maria T. Middleton, the same designer who worked on In the Shadow of Blackbirds and The Cure for Dreaming, will be creating the cover and interior designs for this one, too.

THE UNINVITED

Adult Fiction
Coming August 11, 2015
William Morrow / HarperCollins
ISBN 9780062347336

Summer is rapidly approaching, which means my adult debut novel will soon be available! At this point, I've finished all of my work on the book, and I'm now waiting to dive into promotions for it.

On August 11 at 7:00 pm, I'll be celebrating the release of The Uninvited at Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing in Beaverton, Oregon. I'll also be promoting the book at Elliot Bay Book Company in Seattle and Annie Bloom's Books in Portland. Please keep an eye on my Events page for a complete list of all my upcoming appearances, many of which are still in the works.

SLASHER GIRLS & MONSTER BOYS

YA Anthology
Coming August 18, 2015
Dial / Penguin
ISBN 9780803741737

The release of this YA horror anthology is also rapidly approaching. On August 20 at 7:00 pm, I'll once again be appearing at Powell's Books, this time with April Genevieve Tucholke and McCormick Templeman. We'll be discussing and signing Slasher Girls & Monster Boys and answering readers' questions. We'll also be making a stop at The Book Bin in Salem, Oregon.

We're starting to receive trade reviews for the anthology, and Publishers Weekly even kindly made a mention of my individual story. Here's what reviewers have had to say so far:

“Cat Winters’s ‘Emmeline’ is a haunting story of love and loss in wartime . . . This is satisfying, disturbing horror for the modern YA audience.”
Publishers Weekly

Gross, creepy fun.”

YESTERNIGHT
Adult Fiction

I got to announce the sale of my second adult novel just this past week. I don't have any updates to add, aside from saying that this is the book I'll be actively writing during the rest of the calendar year.

Thank you so much to all of my In the Shadow of Blackbirds and The Cure for Dreaming fans. Your enthusiasm for my novels has most certainly helped me to continue to keep publishing!

Introducing YESTERNIGHT

I'm thrilled to pieces to announce that I sold a second adult novel, Yesternight, to the William Morrow imprint of Harper Collins! This will make the fifth novel I've sold since 2011, which blows me away. I struggled for nearly twenty years just to get published in the first place.

Here's the official announcement from Publishers Marketplace:

Author of IN THE SHADOW OF BLACKBIRDS and THE CURE FOR DREAMING Cat Winters's YESTERNIGHT, in 1925, a trailblazing female psychologist unlocks the mystery behind a child's claims of reincarnation while also confronting questions in her own childhood, again to Lucia Macro at William Morrow, by Barbara Poelle at the Irene Goodman Agency (World).

The book is currently slated to be published Summer 2016.

Thanks so much to Lucia Macro for acquiring Yesternight, and to Barbara Poelle, my amazing and tireless agent, for making the sale possible.

I sold the book based on a proposal, so I'll be spending the next six months writing it, while also preparing for the release of two other novels and a short story. In short, I will be quite busy. Happy, but busy. :)
