  1. A hypnotist came to my university a few years back for one of the Orientation Week events, but I unfortunately wasn't chosen as a volunteer (the tall guy standing in front of me was instead). It was really neat to watch though!

  2. I've never been hypnotized--at least not so I remember. ;) But we used to hypnotize chickens and that's oddly hilarious.

  3. I haven't been hypnotized, but nor have I seen it done. I myself don't think I'd want it done to me, but I'd definitely go to a show to see it done!

  4. The closest I have ever gotten to hypnotism is watching Now You See Me, and that is close enough. I don't revel in the idea that someone can have control over someone else's mind. I would never want to be under hypnotism, but I would like to know more about it, which is one of the reasons why I am so hyped for The Cure for Dreaming!

  5. I've had many a spiritual experience, however I've never been hypnotized.

  6. All I know about hypnotism is that some times you become a chicken, and I don't want to be a chicken!

  7. I've never been hypnotized. Not being able to remember something I could have said or done while being hypnotized is far from appealing to me.

  8. I've been hypnotized a couple of times...it didn't seem to work for me! All I felt was relaxed and my mind just kind of wandered. I didn't feel any different or do anything different during or afterwards. But I'd love to actually see someone in a trance!

  9. I would like to watch a hypnotist show but I would never want to be hypnotized myself.

  10. I've personally never been hypnotized but, quite a few years ago we had a hypnotist come to my school and a close friend of mine was. She went up with a group of people and was put under. He has a bunch of sheets of paper and she was led to believe that it was money. He threw it into the air and everyone grabbed some, stuffing it into their shirts and the like. He told them it'd wear off in a few hours. So, after the show we went to lunch. We sat down and I jokingly asked her about all the money she had hidden. She stopped eating and gave me the strangest look, asked how I knew about that and got up to go check to see if it was still hidden. Later she denied it happening and wanted to know why her locker was stuffed with newspaper clippings. It was priceless!

  11. I have never been hypnotized and I highly doubt I ever will want to. I always want a clear mind. ;D

  12. I have never been hypnotized but have read about it and seen it done to others. I think when a trained hypnotist hypnotizes someone, it can work but it depends on the individual.

  13. I've ALWAYS wanted to be hypnotized, and the couple of times I've been around a hypnotist in a group setting, it hasn't worked on me. So fascinated by the whole thing!

  14. I went to a youth gathering when I was younger, during which we saw a hypnotist perform. As he asked for volunteers, my family nudged me to put up my hand. I was chosen, to my amazement and embarrassment. The most memorable part was after I had left the stage she had said a code word and immediately I was trying to sell fish to those around me.

  15. I've never been hypnotized before. I don't know if I would want to be hypnotized, but I would like to see a show. That would be cool!

  16. when I was in high school we had a hypnosis session in psychology and it was awesome! It wasn't totally deep hypnosis like when people tell you what to do but it was cool :)

    thank you :)

  17. I haven't been hypnotized (yet), although every year I keep telling myself that I'll do it for my birthday. Funny story, though, I was once sitting far back in the audience at a Renaissance festival, watching a man hypnotize a group onstage, and the woman sitting in front of me slumped over in her chair--she'd become hypnotized just by watching! She reacted to the hypnotist's prompts--taking off her jacket when he said it was "hot" out, shaking with "chills" when he said it was "cold."

  18. I've never been hypnotized or seen it done. It's seems scary. I wouldn't want someone to be able to control me.

  19. I tried in high school but nothing really happened. I was definitely bummed!

  20. I've never been hypnotized. But I do think it would be a fascinating experience!

  21. I have witnessed a few hypnotisms, but have never been hypnotized myself. I think it would be interesting, in certain situations. I don't think I would want to be in a show, but they use it for past life regressions and certain situations like that. I think that would be very interesting and informative!

  24. I like reading and watching about hypnotism, but I don't know that I would ever want it done to me. I think I would have to REALLY trust the people who were there. If not, no go.

  25. I love all of these responses! Angelica: I would be interested to find out what's involved with hypnotizing chickens! And what chickens can do while hypnotized!

When I was a teenager, a hypnotist came to my high school and hypnotized various volunteers, including one of my Spanish teachers. He told my teacher to dance like Madonna, and she started taking off her sweater, so that part of the program had to be very quickly stopped!

I was hypnotized as part of a drama class in college, which was an extremely relaxing experience.

Thanks to everyone who has entered, and thank you to those of you who have mentioned love for IN THE SHADOW OF BLACKBIRDS. The giveaway will run for a little under two more weeks.

  26. I have never been hypnotized nor do I want to be. It would be fun to watch someone else do it but I'm not brave enough to try it ;)

  27. I have not been hypnotized. I I wouldn't mind if it's not something crazy. We always think of serious horror or therapy hypnosis, but music can put you in a trance, I guess. When I'm in the middle of a book I'll get really vivid daydreams.

  28. I haven't ever been hypnotized, but I wouldn't say no to it. It could definitely be interesting : )

  29. A hypnotist came to my school for a senior day. I wasnt picked, but I would have loved to try it. Watching my senior class act like something their not was just too funny. They were pretending to play instruments, be animals, and one guy was acting like a girl! I would love to see another one soon.

  30. My Dad stopped going to the dentist before I was ben because he went to dentist who said he could hypnotize him. It was a disaster. I don't think I could let myself be hypnotized, either.

  31. I tried it once for depression. I don't remember much because he had to bring me out if it because I started crying. He thought I was remembering a past life but I don't believe in reincarnation and the whole experience freaked me out.

  32. I've never tried hypnotism, and honestly, I'm too scared to try. The idea of someone having control over me is terrifying. But I do wonder what people being hypnotized in real life look like (the ones of television look fake...)

  33. I have never been hypnotized or ever seen one before. I would be interesting in seeing on someone else though!

  34. I haven't been hypnotized, but I would be very curious to try it. I am skeptical, so I would really only believe it worked if I knew from first hand experience. And I kind of want to know!

  35. I have not been hypnotized, and I don't really want to be. It kind of freaks me out.

  39. I haven't had any experience with hypnotism, but I don't think I'd like it. I'm too much of a personal control freak to give it up.

  41. I have never been hypnotized and am not sure if I want to be. I'm afraid I'll tell someone something they don't want to hear or spill secrets, and I hate hurting anyone's feelings.

  44. I've never been hypnotized. I sort of would like to be just to see if it worked, but also I don't like the idea of being so out of control of myself. So...maybe? If I had friends with me who 1) tried it first and 2) I could trust to make sure nothing horrible happened. :-p

  45. I'm way too scared to ever let anyone even attempt to hypnotize me. Loss of control, bodily and mentally, is one of my greatest fears!

Thanks so much for doing a giveaway. I'm so excited for this book!

  46. Thanks so much to everyone who entered my giveaway. I had the Rafflecopter randomly choose the winner--Kara M.--last night.

I loved reading everyone's hypnotism stories. It's interesting how many of you have never been hypnotized and wouldn't want to be, out of fear of losing control over your mind and body.
