On February 11 I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. On March 18 I underwent surgery to remove the tumor just as the U.S. was shutting down in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. From May 27 through June 23 I spent every weekday morning at the hospital undergoing radiation.
It's been a lot to cope with, but I know we've all been dealing with insurmountable stress and hardships this year. I'm certainly relieved to be done with these stages of my treatment.
To celebrate the end of radiation, I'm running a book swag giveaway!
UPDATE: The giveaway is now closed. I will email the five winners on Thursday, July 2. Thanks to everyone who entered!
Five random winners will receive a stash of bookmarks, postcards, and stickers.
To enter, simply fill out the following form by 11:59 pm Pacific on Wednesday, July 1. You must be at least 13 years old or have the permission of a parent or guardian. I'll email five random winners on July 2. Good luck!

My Epic 2019 Halloween Giveaway!
It's here!!!!
First, I must give credit for this giveaway idea and format to Shannon Messenger. Several years ago, I met Shannon at an author dinner, and she gave the advice of running "superfan" giveaways for readers, as opposed to giveaways where anyone can enter by simply retweeting or liking a post.
Now that I have seven books out in the world, I feel the time is right to heed that advice.
THIS GIVEAWAY IS OPEN INTERNATIONALLY.
Let's start with the prize!
ONE winner will receive ONE signed, annotated copy of ONE of my novels. The winner will get to choose which novel they want to receive. By annotated I mean that I'll go through the entire book of the winner's choice and write little notes in the margins about the importance of certain lines, reasons behind character names, fun facts about the settings, and other behind-the-scenes details I don't typically share anywhere else. I have never done this for any of my books before, so this is an extremely rare, one-of-a-kind prize!
Because this giveaway item is so special and will likely take me several weeks to prepare, I will only select ONE random winner. And I will make you work a little bit to enter. If you've read at least one of my novels, entering should, hopefully, prove to be fun and easy.
How to enter!
You must complete BOTH Step One and Step Two!!!
STEP ONE. Choose one of the following options:
YOU MUST FILL OUT THE ENTRY FORM BELOW (STEP 2) TO HAVE YOUR ENTRY COUNTED!!!!
All entries must be posted online sometime between 12:00 am Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) October 1, 2019, and 11:59 pm PDT October 31, 2019. If you've already posted fan art, photos, etc., thank you so much, but you must create a new post or share your post on another social media site during the giveaway dates to be eligible to win.
STEP TWO. You must fill out the entry form below!
To have your entry counted, fill out the form below. You may post on more than one social media site, and you may choose to do more than one of the above-mentioned types of posts and/or create entries for more than one of my books, but please fill out the form every time you create a new post or post on another site. You'll receive an extra entry credit each time you fill out the form, which will increase your chance of winning!
You must be 13 or over to enter. If you're under 18, you must have permission from an adult to enter.
On the form you'll be asked to choose which of my books you'd like to have annotated if you're my winner. Please see the YA Books and Adult Books pages of this site for more information about each of my novels. Please make your selection carefully. Once I start working on the annotation, I cannot change which book I send you.
THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED!
To link up with other people's posts, use the hashtag #catwintersgiveaway (optional). Feel free to also tag me (Twitter/Pinterest: @catwinters; Instagram/Facebook: @catwintersbooks), especially if you'd like me to potentially retweet or repost your entry (also optional). I cannot guarantee that I'll repost or retweet.
I will contact the winner via email by November 3, 2019. If you do not receive an email from me by that date, unfortunately, that means you did not win. Thank you in advance to everyone who enters! I appreciate you joining my online Halloween party!
I know I've included a lot of information. Feel free to ask questions in the comments section of this post here on CatWinters.com.

The ODD & TRUE Cover Reveal and Giveaway!!!
What do you get when you take a book that could be described as Big Fish meets Supernatural, with two Edwardian sisters at the center, and pair it with a highly talented cover designer and an artist known for her beautifully haunting and fantastical images?
You end up with the breathtaking, spellbinding Odd & True cover . . .
About the Novel:
Trudchen grew up hearing Odette’s stories of their monster-slaying mother and a magician’s curse. But now that Tru’s older, she’s starting to wonder if her older sister’s tales were just comforting lies, especially because there’s nothing fantastic about her own life—permanently disabled and in constant pain from childhood polio.
In 1909, after a two-year absence, Od reappears with a suitcase supposedly full of weapons and a promise to rescue Tru from the monsters on their way to attack her. But it’s Od who seems haunted by something. And when the sisters’ search for their mother leads them to a face-off with the Leeds Devil, a nightmarish beast that’s wreaking havoc in the Mid-Atlantic states, Tru discovers the peculiar possibility that she and her sister—despite their dark pasts and ordinary appearances—might, indeed, have magic after all.
About the Cover:
This absolutely stunning design was created by an entire team of amazing talents, including Alyssa Nassner, the cover designer, and Brazilian artist Nathalia Suellen, who's known for such mystical covers as those of A.G. Howard's Splintered series. I adore the Tim Burtonesque vibe, and those girls representing Trudchen and Odette are so badass. I love it!
Odd & True is my love letter to the magic of storytelling, and, more importantly, my love letter to the childhood I shared with my younger sister, Carrie. So far, all of my YA novels have featured protagonists who grew up as only children, even though my relationship with my sister has always been a close and special one. Carrie and I share a love of ghost stories, myths, family legends, and elegant tea rooms (tea leaf reading plays an integral role in Odd & True). After spending a weekend down in Southern California with Carrie for her birthday in 2014, I realized it was finally time to pay tribute to the bond of sisterhood.
Preordering Options:
I'll list the preordering and Goodreads links before the giveaway, because preorders are extremely important for a book's success. The giveaway will follow.
What do you think of the cover? I'd love to hear your opinion.

“In Winters’s dark and romantic adult novel, an act of shocking violence encourages a young woman to flee her rural Illinois home amid the influenza outbreak of 1918 . . . The author effectively captures the dangers of the period, and yet Ivy finds bastions of human kindness and acceptance. Her compelling voice carries this gothic coming-of-age story, at once horrifying and tender, toward a revelatory yet hopeful conclusion.”

The Great SLASHER GIRLS & MONSTER BOYS ARC Giveaway (U.S. only; ends Monday, May 18, 2015)
I'm part of the upcoming YA horror anthology Slasher Girls & Monster Boys (Dial, August 18,2015), and I'm thrilled to announce that we're running a giveaway for advance reading copies of the book. Here are the details:
HOW TO WIN:
We want to see you at your creatively slashiest. Show us your macabre side and post a pic of something scary to Instagram or Twitter, under hashtag #SLASHERGIRLSARC.
SCARY PIC SUGGESTIONS
1. Hold a séance
2. Read a horror story in a cemetery
3. Recreate a horror scene from film/tv
4. Play light as a feather, stiff as a board
5. Say Bloody Mary 3 times in a mirror at midnight
6. A selfie with your Slasher boyfriend/girlfriend/platonic friend--Pinhead, Freddy, Xenomorph Queen...
7. Draw a chalk outline of a body on a sidewalk. Possibly yours.
SUPER SPECIAL ENTRY: Dig your own shallow grave. Anyone who goes to this much trouble will be placed in their own pool, i.e. your chances of winning are extremely good. Shallow grave guidelines: Be safe about digging. We’ll not be responsible for bodily injury due to spade mishaps, digging near power/gas lines, or digging on a too hot day, etc. Keep it safe, keep it shallow. On a beach, perhaps. Or in your garden.
Enter the giveaway as many times as you want (but dig your grave only once). The Special Pool entries will be given priority.
And don’t let us hinder your slashy creativity. If you have other ideas, let’s see them! Tweet us your fave horror quotes! Show us your…scary dogs? Just keep it legal. And don’t forget to RT and use the hashtag #SLASHERGIRLSARC.

My Halloween-in-March Ghostly Giveaway!
The Halloween season doesn't arrive for seven more months, but that doesn't mean we can't start celebrating. I have advance copies of TWO upcoming ghostly reads sitting here beside me, so it seems to me that a Halloween-in-March giveaway is in order.
Here's what I have waiting for early trick-or-treaters:
One signed advance copy of my upcoming WWI-era ghost tale, The Uninvited.
Age range: Adult Fiction
What it's about: Twenty-five-year-old Ivy Rowan sees the ghosts of loved ones right before someone is about to die. When she enters into a relationship with a German immigrant—the brother of a man her family members killed in retaliation for her brother's death in the Great War—she grows fearful of the increasing number of spirits she witnesses.
What to expect: Jazz. Gin. Ghosts. Sex. Love. Mystery. Psychological horror.
AND. . .
One advance copy of Lauren DeStefano's upcoming middle-grade ghost tale, A Curious Tale of the In-Between.
Age range: 8 to 12
What it's about: Pram Bellamy's lifelong best friend is a ghost named Felix. When a living boy who's also interested in the spirit world enters her life, Pram finds herself embarking upon an otherworldly journey involving a lady spirit medium who may or may not be a phony.
What to expect: Lovely prose. Peril. Spirits. Heartbreak. Hope. Friendship. A fictional world reminiscent of those of Roald Dahl and Neil Gaiman. I absolutely loved this book.
Little peeks inside the advance copies:
The target audiences for these two books are vastly different: one's an adult novel; one's a middle-grade read. However, I'm combining these two 2015 ghost tales into one Halloween-in-March prize package that will likely appeal to my fans and Lauren's. I'll also throw in some of my brand-new swag.
You must be 13 years or older to enter. Open internationally.

~ Coming August 11, 2015, from HarperCollins ~
AND. . .
One advance copy of Lauren DeStefano's upcoming middle-grade ghost tale, A Curious Tale of the In-Between.
Age range: 8 to 12

THE CURE FOR DREAMING International Spotted-in-the-Wild Giveaway!
![]() |
| Samples of the poster. |
The giveaway will run until December 8, 2014, so don't worry if The Cure for Dreaming hasn't yet reached your area. If you live outside the regions in which the novel will be sold, Book Depository offers free shipping to several countries around the world.
Here are the rules:
1. You must be 13 years or older to enter.
2. Take a picture of yourself with a finished hardcover copy of The Cure for Dreaming. The book can be located at a bookstore, your house, a library—wherever—but it must be a finished hardcover, not an ebook or paperback proof. If your bookstore does not have a copy in stock, please request them to order it (you'll then have my sincerest gratitude!).
3. Post the photo somewhere online (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter—anywhere that can involve a link to the photo).
4. Fill out the following form to let me know where you posted the photo. You must submit your entry through this form in order to be eligible for the giveaway.
THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED.
5. If you post the photo on more than one day, or on more than one site, the posting will indeed count as an extra entry, but please fill out the form each time you share the photo.
6. The giveaway is international. These posters are not easy to ship, so this will likely be a one-time-only opportunity. :)
The giveaway will close at midnight PST on Monday, December 8, 2014. Three winners will then be randomly drawn from all of the entries.
The prize:
Three winners will receive one signed, limited-edition poster featuring the cover of The Cure for Dreaming. The posters are a beautiful, glossy quality, and the cover art jumps out in a vivid shade of green (see the photo above). Winners will also receive The Cure for Dreaming bookmarks and a signed bookplate. As I said above, the giveaway is open internationally.

THE CURE FOR DREAMING Goodreads Giveaway
Good news! Amulet Books/Abrams is offering a giveaway for twenty advance reading copies (ARCs) of The Cure for Dreaming! To enter, head over to Goodreads and follow the instructions on the site. The giveaway runs until June 20, 2014, and it's open to U.S. and Canadian residents. Now, I've already heard from readers in other countries who were disappointed to learn that they're unable to enter. Rest assured, I have a feeling A&C Kids UK will eventually run international ARC giveaways, just as they did with In the Shadow of Blackbirds.
I haven't actually seen the ARCs for The Cure for Dreaming yet, but it sounds like they'll be available in June. If you're going to Book Expo America this week, I don't think the ARCs will be there, but you can stop by the Abrams Books booth, #2727, to be absolutely sure—and to check out their other Fall 2014 ARCs. Advance copies of The Cure for Dreaming will definitely be available at the ALA Annual Conference in June, as will I. Please see my Events page for my signing and speaking schedule.
I will list options for requesting ARCs as soon as I know they're available. The Cure for Dreaming should also be appearing on NetGalley in the coming weeks.
I can't believe early readers will be meeting this new book of mine soon! I can't wait to share it with everyone.

The Cover Reveal for THE CURE FOR DREAMING!
It's here!!!! Today is the cover reveal day for my October 2014 novel, The Cure for Dreaming!
Jaime Arnold at Two Chicks on Books is graciously hosting the reveal and a giveaway for an advance reading copy. To travel over to her site and see the full cover, please click on this teaser image:
If that doesn't work, head directly to www.twochicksonbooks.com.
The full synopsis for The Cure for Dreaming:
Olivia Mead is a headstrong, independent girl—a suffragist—in an age that prefers its girls to be docile. It’s 1900 in Oregon, and Olivia’s father, concerned that she’s headed for trouble, convinces a stage mesmerist to try to hypnotize the rebellion out of her. But the hypnotist, an intriguing young man named Henri Reverie, gives her a terrible gift instead: she’s able to see people’s true natures, manifesting as visions of darkness and goodness, while also unable to speak her true thoughts out loud. These supernatural challenges only make Olivia more determined to speak her mind, and so she’s drawn into a dangerous relationship with the hypnotist and his mysterious motives, all while secretly fighting for the rights of women. Winters breathes new life into history once again with an atmospheric, vividly real story, including archival photos and art from the period throughout.

More Details about THE CURE FOR DREAMING
As part of the second annual Authors Are Rockstars Tour, I'm divulging more details about my next novel, The Cure for Dreaming, at the wonderful Carina's Books. The book won't be available until Fall 2014, but over at Carina's site you can learn a little more about the plot and discover which classic horror novel plays a role in the story—plus I'm revealing the name of my young hypnotist character for the very first time. I'm also offering an In the Shadow of Blackbirds/The Cure for Dreaming signed swag giveaway.
My talented Amulet Books editor, Maggie Lehrman, will be sending her editorial notes for this new book in the next month or so, which means I'll soon be ducking away to work on her suggested revisions. She's extremely excited about the novel; I'm extremely excited about it, and I can't wait to share even more info about it.
In the meantime, definitely check out my Authors Are Rockstars post, and if you so desire, have a listen to the song that frequently runs through my head when I'm talking about this historical hypnotist novel of mine...
